  • The last time we followed the normal route to Warnham, there was general agreement that the short section of the Downs Link between Southwater and Christ’s Hospital was no longer suitable for road bikes. You’ll probably prefer to turn left at Southwater onto Church Lane, then right after a mile onto Marlpost Road and left onto Two Mile Ash Road into Barns Green, where you turn right onto Sandhills Road. This avoids accidentally ending up on the A24 or in the middle of Horsham.

  • Here’s a corrected version of the normal route, with the section of Downs Link replaced by the Barns Green detour: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/course/26042256

And this is the alternative for gravel bike / MTB: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/course/25976058

This takes the length of the normal route up to 46 km (29 miles), so quite a long option – might be worth extending the longer route as well, so that the groups can get to see each other at the cake stop. The gravel route includes 10 km of unpaved trail, and is about 35 km (22 miles) long overall.
