Dear Nomads,

As you may have already seen from our social media feeds, 2018 is the 40th anniversary of the club’s founding as the Sussex Nomads and we want to do something special to celebrate our longevity. Actually, we want to do a few special things but the main event will be on Saturday 22nd Sept.  We’re organising two social rides starting at 2pm. One will be 40 km and one will be 40 miles (see what we did there?) Details on the format and routes to follow at a later date.  Then, in the evening there will be drinks and dinner at Westmeston Parish Hall.  There will be a hog roast, paella and veggie dishes, all for a reasonably priced £10 per person.  Partners and family members are invited, so bring them along.  More information will be coming out soon, but for now, pop the date in your calendar.

In other news, there are several Nomads taking part in cycling challenges this summer to raise money for charity.  We have collectively helped them on their way to their targets by giving them £50 each from club funds, however any additional donations from Nomad members to any of the very worthy causes that they are supporting would be greatly appreciated by the riders.  I have put the list of riders along with their events and causes onto a web page on the Nomads site. To view them, click here. Obviously, we wish them all the greatest of success in both their training and in the events

Speaking of challenges, you will have seen from our media feeds that many Nomads have been out and about racing and taking part in sportives this last month or so.  There are too many to mention here, but do keep an eye on our facebook and twitter feeds for photos and updates on what people have been up to.  Also, if I have missed any events or achievements, do feel free to send them to me by email or on whatsapp.  It takes up a huge amount of time trying (and often failing) to track what everyone has been up to and checking results sheets etc.. so any proactive help is much appreciated by me and it’s especially great to get photos to publish too.

Now an update on club kit.  Jason is planning on putting in a kit order to our supplier at the end of this month, so if you want some new club kit, please place your orders before 30th June.

Whilst we’re on the subject of buying kit, it’s a good time to remind you all that we’ve had issues with PayPal recently so will be removing this as a payment option from the website and relevant links. Going forward, please use bank transfers to pay for Nomads events, club kit and membership and please use your name as the reference.

Next up, Gemma has asked me to mention that we could still do with marshals for the Hove Park Crit races to help out Brighton Mitre. It just requires people to give up a Friday evening to be at Hove Park and marshal the races from 5.30/6pm onwards. The dates are 22 June / 6 July / 20 July.  The races are usually good fun to watch. If you can help please contact Gemma – via email: mem2000_uk@yahoo.com or on her mobile 07789 598540.

We have also been advised by Elaine at BMCC that they are very short of mens cat 4 entries, womens entries and youth entries for these crits, so if you are a racer please do consider entering via the British Cycling website.  She also mentioned something about free beer for anyone who volunteers to marshal!

Clun run secretary Mark has also been in touch with me to advise that it is the London to Brighton bike ride this Sunday, so please be mindful of that when planning your route to and from Ditchling.  The club run route won’t clash with this route, but you may encounter lots of additional cyclists when heading to Ditchling.  Also, due to unforeseen circumstances, the planned pop up café for this Sunday’s club run has been cancelled.  A new alternate club run route and venue are being planned, so please keep an eye on the website for Sunday’s new venue and route.  I will of course publish it on FB/Twitter/Strava as usual once I get the information from Liz/Mark/Steve.

Lastly, for anyone who is a fan of Jura Cycle Clothing, I have negotiated a 10% discount for Nomads.  Simply enter SUSSEX10 as the discount code at checkout.  If there are any problems with the code, then do let me know. You can find their website here.

Enjoy the rest of the week and have a good weekend too.

Sally
