Anti-Bullying Policy

1. Purpose

Sussex Nomads Cycling Club is committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all members. As part of our duty of care, we actively promote and implement an anti-bullying policy to ensure that our club remains free from bullying, discrimination, and abuse. This policy applies to all members, volunteers, ride leaders, and participants in Sussex Nomads Cycling Club activities, both in-person and online.

2. What is Bullying?

Bullying is defined as intentional and often repeated behaviour aimed at harming, offending, undermining, or intimidating another person. This behaviour may be verbal, physical, psychological, or online (cyber). Bullying is addressed under our safeguarding policy, which protects individuals based on inherent personal characteristics.

3. Member Responsibilities

All members play a vital role in preventing bullying. We encourage everyone to:

  • Reflect on their own behaviour and interactions.

  • Offer praise and encouragement rather than criticism or condemnation.

  • Use respectful and inclusive language, recognising and valuing our differences.

4. Reporting Bullying

If you witness or experience bullying, please take the following steps:

  • Remind those involved that bullying is not acceptable within our club.

  • If the situation escalates or you feel uncomfortable, report the incident to the Club Welfare Officer (CWO) directly or via the Reporting a Concern Form.

5. Investigation and Disciplinary Action

The CWO will investigate all reported incidents in a timely and confidential manner. During the investigation, the member involved may be suspended from club activities. The Committee will take proportionate disciplinary action based on the findings. Support will be offered to anyone affected by bullying.

6. Conclusion

Prompt and collective action can eliminate bullying and foster a friendly, supportive environment for all members to enjoy our sport.
