Code of Conduct

1. Introduction

Welcome to the Sussex Nomads! Our club rides are all about enjoying the journey, building fitness, sharing skills, and having a good time together. To keep things safe, inclusive, and fun for everyone, we ask all members to follow a few simple guidelines.

2. Safety First

  • Helmets on, always!

  • Ensure your bike is roadworthy.

  • Obey traffic laws, ride predictably and follow the highway code.

3. Respect & Courtesy

  • Be kind and considerate to everyone — fellow riders, pedestrians, horse riders and motorists.

  • Stop at traffic lights and stop signs and DO NOT ride on pavements.

  • Keep language and gestures friendly.

  • Give way to pedestrians and share the road with motorists. Remember that they want to drive safely too!

  • We welcome group photos of the Nomads in line with our social media policy for posting photos.

  • Be considerate of others in public places (e.g., café stops) and do not take photos of members of the public without their permission.

4. Inclusivity & Support

  • Introduce yourself to new members and make them feel welcome.

  • Offer a hand if someone is having a mechanical or health issue. The group stops until the issue is resolved!

5. Personal Responsibility

  • Read the Nomads Ride Etiquette document

  • Be on time for rides and events.

6. Let’s Keep It Positive

We’re all here to enjoy cycling, so let’s keep things civil. The following behaviours aren’t welcome and may lead to disciplinary action by the club:

  • Aggressive or harmful behaviour (towards people or property).

  • Offensive language or gestures.

  • Actions that may put others at risk.

  • Bullying, harassment, or any unwanted physical contact.

  • Discrimination of any kind.
