Sussex Nomads Cycling Club Social Media Acceptable Use Policy

Sussex Nomads Cycling Club (the Club) understands the importance of using technology to communicate and share information with all our members. Social media and mobile technology are a great way for club members to connect with each other and promote club activities and achievements.

The Club wishes to embrace these communication channels. However, we recognise that these communication channels can be misused knowingly and also unwittingly. As result the club would like to provide club members and club officials with a set of guidelines for appropriate online conduct when using the the Club’s WhatsApp groups, Facebook or Strava.

Guidance

  • Each member will be responsible for their behaviour and/or use of language when posting on social networking sites and communication apps. Members must be respectful of others and will not use social networking or the internet to send anyone material that could be considered threatening, offensive, upsetting, bullying or illegal.

  • Members will be held responsible for posting or re-posting material considered to be in breach of British Cycling’s values, even in circumstances where they have not authored the original post.

  • Members will not use club social networking sites/communication apps for venting personal grievances.

  • Members will not post any confidential or sensitive information about any Sussex Nomads Cycling Club members or officials.

  • Members will not post inappropriate images or images that could be considered inappropriate.

  • Members will not post or share images without permission.

Any concerns or complaints about inappropriate social media posts from club members should be made to the Club Secretary. The Club has a complaints procedure outlined in the Club Constitution.

The Club Membership secretary will monitor social media posts and will remove any posts not conforming to the above standard, providing a brief explanation for the ‘poster’ as to why the post was removed. These will be reported too the Club Secretary. Repeat offenders risk being barred from the Club’s social media channels for a period of time agreed by the Committee.

As a simple rule, if you are posting information on social media, be it video, photographs, or the written word, before you post anying, ask yourself: could this be offensive or upsetting to others? Unless you are sure it will not cause offence or upset, do not post.
