Dear Nomads

In this, the final Nomads news of 2017, yule find little actual news, but loads of Christmas puns scattered around liberally – the noel who spots the most wins nothing however. Yep, the icy weather has knocked the stuffing out of most of us, although a special chap-ho-ho-ho to the Nomad who headed off to Shoreham airport all on his own last Sunday. Yes, despite the rein-deer old Yuriy can always be trusted to wrap up warm and log a few miles whatever the weather presents – yay for Yuriy! Snow-more puns now – promise.

The most popular event in the Nomads calendar last week involved no cycling at all, but was instead Friday’s Christmas Curry. I’m told it was as good as ever, with the beer and poppadoms flowing freely, however Gary and Eoghan haven’t been seen since they headed off for just ‘one more drink’, so if you live in the Burgess Hill area please check your garden sheds and consider leaving out a little extra food and even a blanket in case they pass by on their way home.

Christmas TT & Club Run – Christmas Eve

This year’s Christmas 10 Time Trial is being run on the new TT course ( link – The first turn is at Folder Lane roundabout, and the second turn is at Wivlesfied School roundabout). Riding in a Christmassy costume or pimping your bike with mistletoe, tinsel, holly, etc, isn’t necessary but will be applauded. This year there is the added bonus that the male and female winners of the event will also end up being the course record-holders by virtue of the fact that this is the first official event on the course!

Signing on takes place from 9.30am on South Road just east of Honeypot Lane in a small pull in off the road by East Chiltington. First rider sets off at 10am. Cost is just £3.50. Adrian will need two volunteer marshals (one on each roundabout) so please get in contact to let him know if you’re willing to help or reply to this email. After the TT riders will meet at ‘Fuel’ in Ditchling, and if enough people there are interested an ad-hoc club-run might get organised.

Club-Kit Order

The deadline for ordering the next batch of club-kit has been moved from today, until some time in January due to the delay in finding a new secretary to take on this task.

New Years Eve Club Run & Cyclo-X

Keep an eye on the website to see if a club-run gets organised for New Year’s Eve and/or New Years Day. For those of you interested in cyclo-cross you could head up to Herne Hill velodrome on New Years day to watch or join in with their traditional mixed categories ‘Madison Cyclo-X’ race – see here for details.

That’s enough talking turkey for now – have a lovely Christmas – Alex
