Dear Nomads

Before we get on to all the news, a special mention must go to all those who attempted to get to Washington this morning in less than ideal weather conditions.  I am not sure if anyone actually made it to the venue, but kudos to all those who tried!  Chapeau to those who took part in race training on Saturday too, again, in rather soggy conditions!

Now onto the news.  First up, a reminder to those who have yet to complete the Nomads survey.  There are 2 links to complete, and you should have received them by email.  If you didn’t get them, then please get in touch and we will resend them to you (but please check your junk folder first). The committee rely heavily on your feedback to run the club, so it is really important that you take the time to have your say.

Next up, news about our club kit.  Jason Blenkarn and Kevin Costello have officially taken over the role of managing club kit from Adrian, and they are planning an order at the end of this month.  If you want to purchase some kit, the deadline to get your order in is the 26th Jan.  Any orders after that date will be held until the next order is ready to be placed, which will be at the end of March.  If you have any questions about placing an order or on the kit itself, please email Jason on jasonblenkarn@live.co.uk

Also, Jason has advised that 5 nomads have signed up for Liege Bastogne Liege (full length).  If anyone else wants to join, please get in touch with him.  An important piece of information to note is that there will be waffles at the feed stations, and that there is a post pro race festival in Liege the following day, which means plenty of beer and frites.

Next up, a reminder about membership renewal.  There are still quite a few people who have yet to renew their membership.  All the information you need to renew was included in Derek’s email (sent rather keenly at 2am on the 1st Jan!).  If you did not get the email, or have deleted it by accident and need a reminder of what to do, please get in touch with Derek by email, derekmiddlehurst@gmail.com

Now on to some news about the Nomads CX Trophy competition.  Following some rather complicated calculations by Alex, involving both algebra and witchcraft,  Gary Jones has come out as the winner.  A shout out to Helen Webb though, for throwing herself enthusiastically into CX once again, but having bad luck with illness and injury. She still raced with a smile on her face though!

Lastly an important message from Steve Ratford, one of our Club Run Secretaries:

A key feature of the Sussex Nomads is the weekly Sunday club ride
which is a social ride commencing at Ditchling village hall. Typically
we have four groups of riders to cater for the differing cycling
capabilities and aspirations. More details can be found on our website

To improve the Sunday Club runs we are looking for volunteers to be
ride leaders.  The aim is to have designated leaders and helpers
agreed in advance of the actual ride and the route for each group
predetermined.

If you volunteer you will be added to a WhatsApp group of people
willing, on occasion, to be a ride the leader, lantern rouge or
assistant in keeping a group riding together safely.  You are not
expected to help each week.

On the Friday before the ride we will ask for volunteers for the
upcoming Sunday ride. By this time the weather forecast Sunday should
be reliable. This will then enable us to better manage and organise
the rides.

As a rider leader you will set an appropriate pace for the group and
ensure that the group rides safely together. You will either need to
be familiar with the route or have down loaded it from the Sussex
Nomads website to a Garmin or similar gps device.

If you are willing to volunteer as a ride leader then please contact
me with your name and number:  steve.ratford@gmail.com

That’s it for this newsletter.  Don’t forget to check the website calendar for up coming events. It’s also worth keeping an eye on the forum too for discussions, news, upcoming trips, racing etc..

Also, if you have any news you want sent out in the next newsletter, then please get in touch by email, sallymcsorley@hotmail.co.uk.  Also, if there are any photos you would like shared on our twitter and FB pages from club runs, sportives, races etc. then either email them to me, or share them via whatsapp and I will ensure your achievements are bragged about on our social media feeds, making you look as super cool as possible to your friends and family.

Wishing you all a wonderful week!
Sally
